East Lothian locals vent 'welcome to North Berwick' as cars smashed with rocks

Locals in an East Lothian town have spoken of their concerns regarding an increase in antisocial behaviour and vandalism in the area recently.

Residents in North Berwick have reported various incidents, including cars being 'smashed', to the local council and police with most acts originating from the Lodge Grounds area in the last month.

Earlier in the week, an image was uploaded to social media that showed a huge breeze block having been thrown at a BMW which shattered its windscreen. The caption read: "welcome to North Berwick."

This incident occurred in the same area where other vehicles had been targeted near East Road. Residents have been encouraging victims to report incidents via the council portal so appropriate action can be taken.

Several other locals took to a local Facebook group to complain about the "Lodge Louts" in the area, with another saying their car had a tree branch thrown at it in the same area.

Others in the comments referenced incidents involving vandalism and graffiti also occurring within the last month, as a spokesperson for East Lothian Council confirmed that they are aware of multiple incidents and community wardens are engaging in more patrols.

They said: "We have received four antisocial behaviour complaints in North Berwick since early August with three received in October. The local community warden is working alongside Police Scotland in trying to identify the culprits and North Berwick is now the subject of increased hi-visibility community warden patrols."
