Midlothian locals 'gutted' after community butcher leaves Dobbies after a decade

Midlothian residents have vented their frustration after it was confirmed that Dobbies local butcher has ended their lease after twelve years.

Yesterday Shaws Fine Meats announced that they would be leaving the popular garden centre after running the deli for over a decade.

The butcher is originally based in Lauder, but has also run the deli and butchery in Dobbies, providing locals in the area with fresh quality produce.

In a statement, the butchers stated that they would be closing for good on August 30, and thanked the community for their support over the years.

Residents were instantly disappointed in the decision, with many replying to the post to say how 'gutted' they were that Shaws was leaving.

One user said: "So sad, best butcher for miles, good luck in any new ventures."

Other locals vented their frustration at the move, with many commenting that they preferred the butchers and deli to the new Sainsbury's mini market in the garden centre.

One local added: "I was told by staff deli and butchers leaving due to Sainsbury's. Gutted because I had the best chicken and ham pie ever from the deli!"

Another user stated that her visit to Dobbies would not be the same without Shaws, and said:

"Butcher was brilliant, such a shame about the closure."

However, Shaws also stated that they would still be able to serve the community with their new online service which allows locals to order their butcher products straight to their door.
