East Lothian locals fume as council set to relocate kids football posts at park

A small park in East Lothian is to have its goalposts moved after 'several' noise complaints from surrounding neighbours as locals have kicked off over the decision.

Despite suggestions that the posts will be removed permanently, a spokesperson for East Lothian Council confirmed that they are to be "aligned" somewhere else within the park to avoid further disruption.

They said that after several complaints surrounding anti-social behaviour at the play area at Mayfield Park, Musselburgh, the goalposts, which have been in place for 15 years, would be removed and re-aligned elsewhere.

Several neighbours had hit out at the decision and claimed kids would have nowhere else to play and keep out of trouble if they were permanently removed, but Edinburgh Live understands that one set of posts are to be installed as soon as possible.

A council spokesperson added that upon removal of the goalposts, workers discovered that they had rotted and need to be replaced by a new set.

They said: "There had indeed been some complaints received around antisocial behaviour at this site and so to minimise disruption to some of the surrounding householders the goalposts are to be re-aligned within the park.

"However, on removal it was found that they were rotten (have been in place around 15 years) and require to be replaced. Replacement goalposts will be installed within the park in new positions as soon as possible but can't confirm dates at this stage."

The park, which is also known as Mayfield or Mucklets Park, is reportedly a popular area for children to play football and meet with friends while being close to their own homes.
