East Lothian hilltop could be home to new boot camp for early risers

A fitness instructor who wants to hold dawn boot camps on a popular hill top will be the first to go before East Lothian licensing chiefs for approval.

The local authority changed its licensing laws several years ago to require some boot camp operators who use council-owned public space for classes to apply for a public entertainmen t licence.

Despite the change the council says there is currently only one such licence in place in the county.

Now an application for a second one will be decided by East Lothian Council's licensing sub-committee for the first time.

The application by Bpositive Fitness Solutions covers outdoor classes at Port Seton Community Centre and on the Greenhills - a recreational site which lies between Port Seton and Prestonpans.

Applicant Robert Baillie plans to run classes at both sites over a range of times including some weekday mornings between 6.30am and 7.15am, and evenings from 6.35pm to 7pm with a later Saturday morning workout from 8am.

His application does not make clear which classes will be on the Greenhills and which will be on outdoor facilities at the Port Seton Centre.

No public objections have been listed with the application which is due to be heard by the committee on Thursday.

However Police Scotland have urged the committee to "give due consideration to the operating hours of the licence with regard to the potential disturbance to local residents of the area".
