East Lothian food bank shares photo of empty shelves as it pleads for more donations

A East Lothian organisation who provide emergency food to people in crisis have shared a picture of their empty shelves on Facebook to raise awareness about their need for donations.

East Lothian Foodbank provide three days of emergency food to families and individuals in crisis within East Lothian - for example, if people have delays in their benefits coming through, or who are sanctioned and cut off financially. The food bank provides short-term help in the form of supplies while support agencies put long-term strategies in place.

They have now run out of fruit - they usually provide tinned fruit rather than fresh as it's easier to store. Posting on Facebook , they said:

"Hi to all our supporters and once again a plea for help as you can see this week the plea is for tinned fruit of any kind.

"Our last plea was for pasta sauce and we had a fantastic response from our supporters we hope you will be able to help and supply us with some fruit."

As well as fruit, they also say that they're always in need of long life milk and fruit juice, tinned potatoes and pasta sauce.

Snack items are in fairly short supply as well, e.g. pot noodle instant rice.

If you're able to help the food bank, you can drop in donations at any Tesco in East Lothian or library, or through your local church if they have a food bank collection box. Or you can drop it into the food bank directly at 3 Civic Square in Tranent.
