East Lothian family delight with jaw-dropping 20,000 bulb display for charity

An East Lothian family have lit up their jaw-dropping 20,000 bulb display for charity.

Every year the Woods in Prestonpans, East Lothian transform their home into a huge festive light display to raise money for Forth One's Cash For Kids campaign.

They also arrange a Santa's grotto, and encourage people from miles around to bring their kids to see the lights, meet Santa, take pictures and get a present.

Due to last year the event couldn't have a crowd due to covid-19 restrictions but this year it was back and bigger than ever.

The Woods family had said that Storm Arwen had rocked the display forcing them to spend most of today frantically rushing to fix the lights ahead of the switch on yesterday.

But they managed as around 100 neighbours and families gathered to see the spectacular display for charity sharing the event live on Facebook.

The display on Longdykes Road involves over 20,000 individual led lights, a 16ft "mega tree", inflatable snowmen, and much more.

Since they started a few years ago, the event has gone from strength to strength and they now have their very own Facebook "like" page, where visitors leave supportive, friendly comments.

They shared the festive fun on Facebook captioned: "2021 switch on.

"Thank you to everyone who came along for the switch on, what a great crowd and we had a special visitor as well.

"Thanks to the Simpson’s ice cream van for coming along.

"We raised a lot tonight for Radio Forth Cash for Kids and hope you all had fun.

"The lights will be on nightly 4:30pm to 9:30pm"

The post collected dozens of likes from impressed spectators.

Elizabeth Smith: "Fantastic display and a good cause, benefits!"

Mark Knights gushed: "Amazing well done."

While Sarah Morrison said: "Fab display as always."

The display will be on throughout the festive season.
