A ‘water-loving’ dog sparked a rescue operation at an East Lothian beach after venturing too far into the Forth during an evening paddle.
Coastguard and lifeboat teams in North Berwick were scrambled to return golden retriever Robbie to his owner after the over-excitable pup decided to go for a dip off Broadsands beach.
The boisterous pooch left several people on the beach concerned after his attempted break to Fife having been let off the lead to run around in the water on a warm day in the region, with emergency responders quickly rushing to the incident.
However Robbie appeared to be oblivious to the danger and was seemingly untroubled by the rescue when back on dry land moments later.
His owner had raised the alarm with the North Berwick Coastguard Rescue Team, while the RNLI crew from the local station also responded to the panicked calls.
But the dog was returned unharmed and continued on his evening walk without a care in the world.
A spokesperson for the North Berwick Coastguard Rescue Team: "The very happy golden retriever, Robbie, decided to take a swim, venturing further and further away despite desperate calls from the owner.
"Realising the situation, the dogs owner did the right thing and called for assistance rather than attempt a rescue.
"Teams were quickly on scene where North Berwick Lifeboat returned the dog to the beach, unharmed, completely oblivious to the concern everyone had.
"Remember if you see someone or something you are concerned about on the shoreline, cliffs, mud or water. Dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
"If in doubt, call."
