East Lothian couple devastated as thieves give police the slip in their new car

An East Lothian couple have been left devastated after their car was stolen in the early hours of Monday morning.

Louise Allen and her husband, Daniel, had their blue Ford Focus stolen from their home address in Stoney Bank Gardens during the night and police had already begun pursuing the vehicle before it was reported, due to suspicious behaviour from the driver.

Although the car had been tracked down by police, the thief managed to get away from the pursuit leaving Louise and Daniel without their only form of transport.

The type of car is a Ford Focus ST, with the registration plate: SD16 MUC.

Louise has since made an appeal on Facebook to help widen the search in the hope that her family car, which is only two months old, will be returned soon, and damage-free.

Replying to one of the comments on her post, Louise said: "Thank you so much guys. We're obviously really gutted and feel violated for sure."

She also commented on the fact that some of her son's possessions were still in the car at the time: "Wee James's goalie gloves and football boots were in the boot too. Just belongings but mean a lot to him."

The theft follows a similar reported incident of the same type of car being stolen from an address in Tranent on Sunday night/Monday morning.

Commenting on the incident, a spokesperson from Police Scotland said: "Officers are investigating following the reported theft of a vehicle from the Stoney Bank Gardens area of Musselburgh which happened overnight on Sunday, 10 October into Monday, 11 October, 2021.

"The stolen vehicle was sighted by officers on Great Junction Street, Leith, at around 2.30am on Sunday morning. A short pursuit took place but the vehicle was lost to sight.

"Enquiries remain ongoing and anyone with information should contact officers via 101 and quote incident number 0435 of 11 October, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

This type of incident has started to become a regular occurrence in Edinburgh and the Lothians, with Police Scotland offering advice on how best to prevent car theft ahead of long winter nights.
