East Lothian charity has minibus window 'smashed by brick'

An East Lothian charity had its minibus window 'smashed by brick' as they were driving earlier this afternoon.

Musselburgh Sea Cadets were driving the charities bus along Olive Bank Road when three young males allegedly threw a brick at their windscreen.

The pictures show the smashed windscreen which appears to have been launched with some impact to create such a large crack.

The driver of the van is also shaken up by the incident as it happened whilst he was behind the wheel of the vehicle.

A member of the group told Edinburgh Live, "We were driving along Olive bank Road in Musselburgh and the walk Bridge above, when three male youths threw a brick over and has smashed our mini bus windscreen.

"We are a local charity in Musselburgh and we use our bus most days we also let other groups in Musselburgh use it and can't really have things like this happen not only to the bus but our commanding officer was driving and he is now shaken up about it.

They continued: "It happened just around 15.15pm today

"We called the police and they said they were to busy to attend and we were to just email them but it has been reported."

The incident was also shared to a local group on Facebook captioned: "Our young people are devastated by what has happened and there hard work fundraising has been poured down the drain because of them.

"It makes all the volunteers so angry!

"The driver is fine but potentially could have caused serious injury and thankful on this occasion the cadets were not on-board!"

The shocking post gathered dozens of likes and comments from concerned locals.

One user said: "That is totally disgusting I used to be in the parents group and the amount of fundraising the staff and the kids do is just amazing, and for this to happen is just disgusting.

"Let’s hope someone knows who knows these kids and their parents pay up."

Another exclaimed: "Makes me so angry that decent folk suffer because of mindless vandals, not to mention the danger to the driver. Police should make them pay but they won't, I know from bitter experience."

While another added: "Can we no get a go fund page going to help with the cost?"

Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
