East Lothian care home reopens after £9 million revamp

A care home in East Lothian has reopened after a £9 million refurbishment which has created 30 jobs.

Edinburgh firm Randolph Hill Nursing Homes Group says the redevelopment of Muirfield in Gullane with 60 high-spec en suite rooms will improve residents' quality of care. It also secures the jobs of 50 existing staff.

It has been officially opened by Major Michael Williams MBE, Lord-Lieutenant of East Lothian, who met manager Heather Franklin, Randolph managing director Peter McCormick, director of nursing Ingrid Neville, and residents at the home before unveiling a plaque.

McCormick said: “We’re pleased to officially open our redeveloped Muirfield nursing home. Our investment has transformed the site and we now provide a premium quality care experience for our residents with first rate facilities and rooms which are much larger compared to typical nursing home standards.

"This redevelopment project has also been beneficial to the East Lothian economy, securing the long term employment for our 50 existing staff members and creating an additional 30 new jobs on the site.”

Why robot carers could prove more comforting for our elderly than you think

Randolph Hill was founded in 1985 and owns and operates six nursing homes across central and east Scotland, providing residential nursing care for more than 350 residents and employing more than 500 staff.

Neville said: “Our residents’ care and well-being was at the heart of this redevelopment and we’re delighted with the success of the project. Muirfield is focused on person-centred care tailored around what an individual can do, rather than what they can’t. This enables our residents to maintain independence which promotes wellbeing.”
