East Lothian beach-goer 'embarrassed' after inflatable sparks false alarm rescue

An East Lothian beach-goer was left "embarrassed" after rescue crews were sent out in search of her inflatable.

Lifeboat teams from North Berwick and Kinghorn were called out, along with coastguard crews from Fisherrow, after the item was spotted off the coast of Longniddry with fears there may be somebody on it.

As they arrived on the scene, shortly after 6.30pm on Friday, teams were told that the inflatable had made its way back ashore further along the coast. Thankfully there was nobody on it, and it had simply been washed out into the Forth.

The item was then handed to the rescue crews before they reunited it with the red-faced owner.

North Berwick Coastguard Rescue Teams shared news of the incident in the hope it'll discourage other false alarms of this nature.

They said: "If you are taking and inflatable to the beach please have a rope or a means of securing it from getting blown out to sea. Or better still don’t take them to the beach at all.

"Remember if you see someone or something you are concerned about on the shoreline, cliffs, mud or water. Dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. If in doubt call."
