East Kilbride Young Farmers enjoy action-packed summer

East Kilbride Young Farmers have had an action-packed summer, getting back to the many activities they missed over the last year.

As restrictions have eased the group have been hard at work - and play.

Since April the club has enjoyed the traditional events such as netball, football and handicrafts, while also trying something new with a day out to FoxLake adventures and a lesson from Ayr Beach Volleyball.

Club chairwoman Alexandra Perrie told Lanarkshire Live : “It has been really rewarding to see so many of our members return to club events.

"Following our announcement that the club has been honoured with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service we have continued our work within the community.

"The club held their annual charity event in July to raise money for Support in Mind Scotland.

"This year 30 East Kilbride Young Farmers members took on the Weavers Trail - a 16-mile walk beginning in Darvel and ending in Eaglesham."

Alexandra went on: “It was a great day to be outside, the day went so well, and all of our members were so enthusiastic.

"It was not only an effective way to raise money for a great cause but a chance for our members past and present to catch up in person after so long on our Zoom meetings.”

The club would like to thank all who sponsored them and helped raise a fantastic £1,356.66 for Support in Mind Scotland.

“We have been informed that the money raised will be spent within the East Kilbride area, which was really nice to hear," added Alexandra.

"Keep your eyes peeled for the East Kilbride Young Farmers cookbook on sale later this year with proceeds also going to charity."

With summer coming to a close, the club does not plan on slowing down.

Lots of new and exciting events are in the diary as part of their winter syllabus such as an inflatable obstacle course, rock climbing and concert practices.

The club is always welcoming new members to join the club with something for everyone. Its motto this year has been "don’t say no, give it a go".
