East Kilbride yob who threatened to stab his mum behind bars

A man who threatened to stab his mum and his aunt has been jailed for 15 months.

Allan Bennoch admitted brandishing a blade at the women at his aunt’s home in Kirkoswald, Calderwood in East Kilbride, on January 26.

He also admitted bursting his aunt’s nose by punching her.

Hamilton Sheriff Court heard that his mum and aunt are sisters, and were in the house when Bennoch arrived under the influence about 9pm.

Fiscal depute, Liza Lann, said there was an argument over whether his aunt allegedly let someone hit Bennoch on a previous occasion.

Ms Lann told the court: “The accused approached his aunt, took hold of her and punched her on the face. This caused her nose to burst.

“Then he went into the kitchen and returned to the living room with a knife. He held it against his mum’s head and said ‘I’m going to stab you’.

“He then approached his aunt and, while making a stabbing motion, told her ‘and you too’.”

The prosecutor told the court “it calmed down very quickly” and Bennoch threw the knife onto a couch before leaving.

She added: “Police attended and officers saw blood coming from Julie’s nose and a few cuts on her face.”

Defence agent Ali Murray said all three had been drinking and confirmed the argument arose out of Bennoch blaming his aunt for the previous assault.

Mr Murray said: “This rose to the surface again, but my client knows his violent reaction is unacceptable.

“He has pleaded guilty at an early opportunity and, in sobriety, apologises to both women.”

Sheriff Douglas Brown told Bennoch the sentence would be reduced from 20 months to 15 due to his early plea. It was backdated to January 28 as he has been in custody since then.

Bennoch said ‘thanks’ to the sheriff as he was led from the dock.
