East Kilbride YM's new dressing rooms will give players VIP treatment on return to action

Amateur side East Kilbride YM have ensured they will look every bit the professional outfit when they return to action.

The Caledonian League have recently unveiled their sparkling new dressing rooms at Kirtonholme and they are the envy of many senior sides in Scotland.

Boasting a bluetooth sound system, LED lights, smart TVs, phone charging stations, leather seats and the club crest emblazoned on the floor, for a moment you could picture yourself being in a top-flight changing room.

Players will be able to enjoy the VIP treatment when lockdown restrictions are lifted in the coming months.

And YM gaffer Graeme Robertson insists the £4000 investment helped them lure new signing Steven Greenlees, formerly of Amateur giants Colville Park, to Kirktonholme for next season.

He said: "We did look at professional changing rooms and stole ideas here and there.

"I think everyone is appreciative of the efforts, right down to the lockers being engraved with the club crest.

"We've just signed a boy who is a Scottish internationalist and, as well as the boys in the team have been doing, we showed him around the facilities at Kirktonholme and he couldn't believe what he was seeing.

"Unfortunately, we haven't been able to use them yet but most of the guys have popped in to have a look and they are quite impressed with it.

"It will give them a buzz when they finally get to use them."

Youngsters at the club's sister team, East Kilbride YC, were fortunate enough to get a taste of the experience before the Covid-19 shutdown came into force in March.

They occupy the changing room next door and Graeme added: "We are trying to make it as good as possible for the kids and the adults.

"The kids don't usually use changing rooms because they usually turn up with their kits on, but before lockdown they were turning up and using the dressing rooms because they are decent."

More improvements are underway at Kirktonholme after the club received a grant to kick-start a £40,000 facelift for the club's two pitches at the pavilion, but the club are a while away from a return to the field.

"We hope Phase 3 will allow us to get back to training," said Graeme.

"The boys are out running and keeping themselves fitter than ever probably, but once we get into Phase 3 we might be able to get training in smaller groups.

"When we will play games again, though, nobody has a clue."
