East Kilbride YM Old Crocks enjoy a feast of football to kick-off 2020

Players past and present kicked off the new year in style at East Kilbride YM last week with the club’s annual action-packed Old Crocks Day.

Around 75 players participated in the day-long festivities on January 4, with five teams vying to win the 20- minute round robin fixtures.

It was YM’s Caley team who emerged victorious on goal difference with YC Coaches, YM GGPL, YM 35s, and YM Old Crocks not far behind in an enjoyable afternoon, which was tinged with sadness following the deaths of Jimmy Neville and Jimmy Soutar.

And everyone was shocked to be told of the passing of another ex-YM man Scott Yuille.

EKYM boss Graeme Robertson said: “It’s not been a great year for the club in that regard with so many club legends passing.

“It’s been quite sad, but Saturday was a chance for the young and old to come together and a chance for people to reminisce.

“That aside, everyone still had a good time and they all retired to the bar afterwards for a few drinks. The club would like to thanks all the players who took part and the spectators for making it such a successful day.”

This Saturday competitive football returns when YM travel to Cowdenbeath, where they will face Kingdom of Fife Premier League side Lumphinnans United in the fifth Round of the Scottish Amateur Cup.

YM are laying on a bus from Kirktonholme at 11.30 am if anyone wishes to travel to the match.
