It has been a successful week for East Kilbride YM as the club received a £22,000 grant to upgrade their home pitch at Kirktonholme – and players raised over £2500 for the NHS.
Last year, East Kilbride United – a partnership between East Kilbride YM and EKYC – were given the keys to Kirktonholme Playing Fields through a community asset transfer from South Lanarkshire Council.
This allowed them to finally have a permanent home ground and they will now focus on the next stage of improving the facility.
In August the club’s changing rooms were given a revamp and the £22,000 grant from Viridor has given them enough funds to revamp he two pitches at Kirktonholme, starting next week.
A club statement said: “Delighted to announce we found out we were successful in a Grant application of £22,000 from Viridor.
“This, plus our previous grant of £22,000 from SLC’s Whitelee REF, gives us the full £44,000 to upgrade both Kirktonholme football pitches."
Meanwhile, Scott Forrest and Cammy Fyffe both play for the YM GGPL team and have just completed a remarkable month raising funds for the Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS.
They both ran 250 kilometres in the month of May and have so far raised over £2500.
Club spokesman Les Goodfellow said: “What a wonderful achievement by the two young lads.
“They have been widely applauded by team mates and club officials.”
