East Kilbride YC stars claim place in SYFA Scottish Cup semi-final

EKYC...2 Portobello...1

Late goals from Ryan Byrne and James Quinn secured East Kilbride YC’s 2007 team a place in the SYFA Scottish Cup semi-finals.

The boys put in a fine display against Portobello CFA as they fought off high winds and rain on their way to victory.

Outstanding defending by Luke Duffy, Josh Phillips, Diarmid McCreadie and good goalkeeping from Reno Burnside kept things level at the break.

But 20 minutes from time YC found the breakthrough when Diarmid McCreadie set up Byrne to head home the opener.

Portobello equalised five minutes later when a cross-cum-shot found its way into the net.

End to end stuff ensued, but YC stepped up a gear and after a great move involving Ben Phillips, Byrne and Mikey Gaughan, young James Quinn won it for YC five minutes from time.

Club spokesman Mark McCreadie said:”It was a great game played in horrible wind, but played in a great spirit.”

YC now face Musselburgh Windsor for a place in the final.
