East Kilbride won't rush recruitment drive after summer signing spree says boss Stevie Aitken

Boss Stevie Aitken insists he is in no rush to add to his nine new recruits at East Kilbride ahead of the new league season.

With the Lowland League currently scheduled to kick-off on October 10, Kilby are counting down the days to their opening fixture against the University of Stirling.

They look set to be missing key defenders Ricky Miller and Steven Old, but the gaffer insists they won’t be forced into any panic buys before the opening clash against the students.

He told Lanarkshire Live Sport : “We are still looking to bring another three or four in but we plan on taking our time and make sure to get the right players.

“At this moment in time there is nothing else happening than keeping an eye on players.

“Other clubs are in the same boat as us now. They are just waiting to see if players get signed up after trials or moved on.

“At our level we have to wait and see what other clubs are doing before we sign players.

“Players have options and will go into places on trial, but we have targets in mind and will have a look at them.

“We still have time on our side to deal with agents so I’m happy for that to continue on in the background just. The season is a couple of weeks away and the focus is on the park not off it.”

Having faced Albion Rovers and Stranraer in pre-season so far, Aitken is focused on improving his pool of talent.

“I want to concentrate on the group we do have here and their fitness,” he added.

“Pre-season has been terrific so far and the players have responded really well to what we want them to do.

“We realise it’s been five months since they last played competitively but with every game and training session they are getting fitter and sharper.

“They will be ready for when the season starts.

“We will be stepping it up again in the next few days with a couple of games, so we will be ready.”
