A town centre fast-food restaurant will close for good next week - with disgruntled staff only given nine days' notice.
The McDonald's in EK, East Kilbride shopping centre is one of three in the town.
McDonald's say all staff have been offered positions in the remaining Whirlies or Queensway restaurants.
It is the latest blow for the shopping centre, with a number of high-profile retailers shutting up shop in recent times.
A source said: "We've been given nine days notice and all staff/customers are absolutely gutted.
"The franchise holders of this restaurant have shown absolutely no concern for the upset they've caused everyone involved."
A spokesman for McDonald's told Lanarkshire Live: "Unfortunately our East Kilbride shopping centre restaurant will permanently close on Wednesday, June 30.
"This decision was not taken lightly and all of our restaurant colleagues have been offered employment at the Queensway and Whirlies restaurants nearby."
A spokesman for EK, East Kilbride, said: “The news about McDonald’s is both clearly concerning and very surprising as they continue to hold a lease for the premises, however, it also underlines the huge impact the COVID pandemic has had across the UK.
"As we have seen only too clearly over the past year, there are many challenges facing the retail and restaurant industries at the moment, however, we are working hard to address this and adapt our offer to ensure EK, East Kilbride meets the needs of the local community moving forward.”
