East Kilbride tipped for Lowland League title win ahead of big-spending Kelty Hearts - lower league football show

East Kilbride go into the Lowland League season as favourites over Barry Ferguson's Kelty Hearts.

That was the opinion of East Kilbride News Sports Editor Paul Thomson and Albion Rovers club captain Bryan Wharton on the Lower League Football Show this week.

Kilby, Kelty, BSC Glasgow, Spartans, East Stirling, Bonnyrigg Rose, and Berwick Rangers will all fancy their chances of winning the title and competing in the League Two play-off spot.

Despite the signings of Nathan Austin, Dylan Easton, and Thomas Reilly the podcast guests backed gaffer Stuart Malcolm to get it right at K-Park.

Paul said: "This is going to be the most competitive Lowland League we have ever seen.

"East Kilbride obviously, BSC Glasgow, Kelty, Spartans, East Stirling, Bonnyrigg Rose as well."

He added: "East Kilbride will go in as favourites, obviously, as defending champions. You look at their squad and there is a lot of SPFL experience there.

"But by no means is it going to be easy for them."

Cliftonhill skipper Wharton continued: "It's getting more and more competitive.

"I think everyone is wanting to make that move to get out the league now. That's why the signings are getting a bit more interesting."

"On paper they have to be favourites. The boys they have in the team have all done it at that level.

"They've added Darren O'Dea from even higher, and have boys who have played in League One and League Two.

"I don't see why they shouldn't be especially with their previous experience."
