East Kilbride thugs hunted after man attacked in own home

Police are hunting a gang of thugs who attacked a man at his home in South Lanarkshire.

At around 6pm on Thursday the victim, aged 59, was at home in Chatham, East Kilbride when three men got into the property. They assaulted him, injuring his head, hands and leg.

Emergency crews were called to the scene and the man was rushed to hospital for treatment. The severity of his injuries and current medical condition were not disclosed by police.

One of the attackers is described as a white man with a local accent who is believed to be around six feet tall. There are no descriptions available of the other two perpetrators.

Police are scouring CCTV footage and making door-to-door enquiries to hunt down the gang. While officers probing the incident are yet to discover the motive they do think it was a 'targeted attack'.

Locals are urged to think back to Thursday evening and if they noticed anything suspicious in the area. Witnesses, motorists with dash cam footage or anyone with information that could help with the investigation should come forward.

Police stressed that they can be contacted anonymously.

Detective Inspector Jamie Campbell said: “The motive for this attack is not known, however, we do believe this was a targeted attack. I am asking people in the local area to think back to last night, did you see three men hanging around, did you notice anything odd or suspicious?

"If you have any information about this incident, please contact us. In particular, if any motorists with dash cams were in the area, please check your footage as it could have captured something which would assist our enquiries.

"Any small detail could prove significant, so please do pass it on. Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 2883 of July 7.

"Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where you can give information anonymously."
