East Kilbride Thistle target new 'identity' in West of Scotland League era

East Kilbride Thistle boss Iain Diack believes the West of Scotland League is the perfect chance to give the club a new “identity.”

The Jags will kick-off their Conference C campaign this weekend as Yoker visit The Showpark.

Ambitious Diack has high hopes for the tier seven season despite promotion to the Premier Division being off the table.

The gaffer believes the conference allows him to remodel the whole club and move away from mistakes of the past while Thistle were part of the West Region juniors.

He told Lanarkshire Live Sport : “For me this West of Scotland League and a fresh start is about trying to give the club an identity.

Iain Diack says there were positives to take from defeat against Drumchapel United (East Kilbride News)

“When teams play us I want them to be expecting a certain standard that we meet.

“It’s not just the same old East Kilbride. We don’t want to be a team that just goes out there and plays for a bit; we don’t want to be a team that lacks structure.

“It’s about us having an identity, a shape, and a way of playing. That is how good teams play. They work on their system and they play in a certain way. That is what I want for us.

“It’s been coming along nicely, but this season will give us the chance to really develop that.

“It will get better the more the players improve and maybe we can add that bit more quality of players into the club.

“The boys have been doing well and are starting to grasp what we are looking at, and what we are looking for from them.

With pre-season and the first round of the South of Scotland Cup - a 4-1 defeat to Vale of Clyde – under his belt, Diack is confident ahead of the big kick-off.

He added: “We have a lot of positives to take into the season from pre-season and the cup game.

“Our last three games against Forth, Bellshill and Vale have been decent performances over 90 minutes. We go into the season in good form and it’s now about trying to get guys up to fitness.

“We’ll look at adding another couple to the squad if possible, but we’ll see how the next couple of weeks go.”
