East Kilbride Thistle players and staff refund fans after Junior Cup shocker

East Kilbride Thistle’s players and management team dipped into their own pockets to reimburse fans after their embarrassing Junior Cup defeat to Dufftown.

The Jags were huge favourites for the tie in Moray, but suffered a shock 2-1 defeat.

And gaffer Gary Hamilton revealed his squad were so mortified by Saturday’s display away to the North Superleague side, they covered the costs for the fans who made the eight-hour round trip.

Hamilton said: “After the game we made the decision to reimburse the fans for their bus fare and match ticket.

“All the management team and players chipped in because the performance was so embarrassing.

“Even the guys who didn’t get a game put their hands in their pocket and that tells you a lot about the team spirit, at least, because we win and we lose as a team.

“Our fans spent 14 hours away from their families to support us and to watch that performance wasn’t acceptable, so it was the right thing to do.”
