East Kilbride Thistle boss is pleased with progress, if not results, as they head into 2021

EK Thistle boss Iain Diack believes his side are moving in the right direction as they look to 2021.

The Jags return from their Christmas break on January 9 when they host Drumchapel and Diack is relatively pleased with how they have performed so far, if results haven’t been exactly as they would have liked.

With five games played, Thistle have gained four points and sit seventh in the nine-team West of Scotland League Conference C.

Diack said: “It’s not been brilliant, but in terms of what we inherited here and what the club have to spend, this was always going to be a slow process. In terms of results, there’s only one game where we can say it was nowhere near good enough and that’s the Kilsyth game [a 6-1 defeat], but apart from that we’ve been okay.

“Yoker, first game of the season, we probably deserved a point out of that game; the St Anthony’s game, we drew 2-2 and should have won five or six; the Drumchapel game we were well in it and played well in patches, but lost.

“The Newmains win was good and we probably should have won by more than one goal, so it’s good and bad in terms of the points. But performances have been good and I feel we are moving in the right direction.”

Having taken the reins in February just before the pandemic hit, there’s not been much football for Diack’s side.

However, he feels they are starting to find their feet and he feels positive about their development.

He added: “We have an identify for how we want to play and the guys are starting to grasp it now.

“At the start of the season, with the money teams are able to offer, there’s only one place people expect us to finish - and that’s bottom.

“We are in a completely different market where we can’t offer money, while there’s guys on £200 a week in our league. So this year is about development and come next season, the boys should be stronger for the experience and, hopefully, our results will reflect that.”
