East Kilbride Thistle boss 'can't catch a break' after chaotic week at Showpark

Beleaguered East Kilbride Thistle boss Gary Hamilton insists his side can’t catch a break after a chaotic week at the Showpark.

The Jags saw their skipper Derek McGroary kicked out the club following a bust-up with Hamilton in training over his fitness.

And the West Region One side are on their fourth goalkeeper in five games after stand-in David Malarkey broke his foot – two weeks after first choice shot-stopper Derick Moore did the same thing.

To make matters worse, new signing David Lamond is crocked after breaking his shoulder in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Port Glasgow, which leaves winless Thistle second bottom of the table.

Shell-shocked Hamilton said: “We just can’t get a break at the moment.

“We are having no luck with injuries and we need to look at bringing more players in after what’s happened in the last week.

“Derek left after we had a disagreement over his fitness levels.

“I asked him to go away for two weeks and work on his fitness because at this stage I couldn’t put him in the 16 for a matchday.

“He disagreed with that and we decided to let him go there and then.

“Some people don’t like it when you tell them the truth and, these days, players will just believe they can get another club.

“That’s football and we just have to deal with it.

“Andrew Neil decided he wants more game time and moved on also.

“Davie Lamond broke his shoulder in a challenge on Saturday and there’s no word yet on how long he’ll be out, so that’s us another player down.”

Earlier this month keeper Derick Moore broke his foot after kicking a goal post in frustration and that led to the Jags bringing in Adam Bennett.

He was unavailable this week and the Jags brought in David Malarkey from Blantyre Soccer Academy, but he broke his foot playing for their U19s on Friday.

Now Hamilton has drafted in Connor Gaffney to fill the void.

“He’s the fourth different goalkeeper we’ve had in five games,” Hamilton sighed.

“It’s no excuse for the results we’ve had, but hopefully our luck will change.”
