East Kilbride Thistle boss baffled by lengthy stoppage time that cost side victory

East Kilbride Thistle boss Garry O’Hanlon was left baffled and frustrated by the amount of stoppage time played in their draw with Ardrossan – after the visitors grabbed a last-gasp equaliser.

The Jags seemed to be cruising at 2-0 up thanks to a debut goal from Jamie Longworth and a David Sinclair strike in the West of Scotland Third Division clash.

However, Ardrossan pulled one back early in the second half before levelling in the seventh minute of added on time in controversial circumstances.

O’Hanlon said: “We were up 2-0 at half-time with two good goals and we had chances to kill the game, but it came back to bite us.

“The referee has added seven or eight minutes on when we were told it would be three minutes, so I don’t know where the time has come from.

“A few things didn’t go for us. They kicked the ball out of the park from their own free-kick and somehow the referee gave a corner.

"We don’t react to the corner and they score, we take kick-off and the final whistle goes.

“It sounds like its sour grapes, but I’m frustrated with us more than anything else.

"We’ve got to go and react and defend the corner.

“We deserved to win the game.”

The Jags, who are unbeaten in four games so far, now face Lanark United at Moor Park tonight and host Larkhall Thistle on Saturday.

But O’Hanlon is confident it will all come together for his side soon.

He added: “One of these days it’s going to click and somebody is going to get a doing. It’s just going to take a wee bit longer than what we thought.

“This is not the worst result because Ardrossan are a decent side, but we are still a work in progress.

“The good thing is Jamie is back now and he took his goal well. He was really composed and that’s his first goal, but I hope there’s more to come from him.”
