East Kilbride Thistle bolster squad ahead of key league games

East Kilbride Thistle boss Gary Hamilton has made his second signing in a week after bringing in attacking midfielder Anthony Hampson from Blantyre Under 19’s.

Hamilton brought Liam Barclay back to the club last week following an unsuccessful stint at Cambuslang Rangers and now 18-year-old Hampson gives him an “exciting” option going forward.

The Jags boss said: “Anthony played for the Scotland international development squad last season and is a big signing for us.

“I’m quite excited about it . He’s come through as part of our link-up with Blantyre Soccer Academy and has been identified as someone ready to make the step up. The boy needs a change and he’s looking forward to playing Junior football.”

Thistle face Shettleston on Saturday in the league, but the clash will come too soon for the new boy.

Hamilton added: “Anthony is still a couple of weeks away from being ready to play for us.

“He needs a wee bit of time to bed in, but once he does I’m confident he will cope with the demands.”

Meanwhile, a frozen Showpark pitch put paid to East Kilbride Thistle’s hopes of league action at the weekend.

The Jags were due to host Greenock Juniors on Saturday, but plummeting temperatures overnight on Friday forced the match to be postponed.

Thistle now travel to league leaders Shettleston this Saturday and Hamilton is relishing the contest.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to it. I don’t think we should be fearful of anyone in this league now and it will be a good gauge to see where we are.

“As a club we’ve grown this season and we’ve had some good results recently.

“We were all really disappointed the Greenock game was called off. It wasn’t a great day for us overall with Kello and Girvan winning to go ahead of us in the league.”

Kick-off at Greenfield Park on Saturday is 1.45pm.
