East Kilbride takeaway worker sexually assaulted female colleagues court hears

An East Kilbride takeaway worker has been jailed for 10 months for sexually assaulting female colleagues.

Rajif Kareem, 32, was also put on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years when he appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

Fellow worker Harjinder Singh, 54, who was also convicted of sex offences, avoided a prison sentence.

Sheriff Douglas Brown ordered him to be supervised by social workers for 18 months and to carry out 250 hours of unpaid community work.

Singh will be on the sex offenders’ register for 18 months.

Kareem, of Govanhill Street, Glasgow, was found guilty of sexually assaulting three women at the Marmaris fast food shop in Stuart Street.

The sheriff also convicted him of making remarks of a sexual nature towards two of the victims.

Singh, of Smith Hill Street, Paisley, was found guilty of making sexual comments to two of the women.

He was also convicted of threatening or abusive behaviour towards one woman.

The court heard Singh followed her into a ‘cool room’, closed the door behind him and threatened not to let her out unless she engaged in sexual activity.

Kareem sexually assaulted one woman on various occasions between June 2018 and April 2019.

The charge stated he “touched her on the body sexually and slapped her sexually”.

The other two women were subjected to assaults and lewd comments between January and July last year.

The assaults were similar in nature to what the first victim endured.

The accused required interpreters in court to allow them to follow fully what was said against them during the trial.

They denied any wrongdoing and claimed it was simply playful behaviour that the women didn’t object to at the time.

However, Sheriff Douglas Brown returned guilty verdicts on all eight charges before the court.
