East Kilbride star Craig Howie scoops player of the year double

Craig Howie claimed two prizes at the East Kilbride Player of the Year Awards on Saturday night – just hours after getting his hands on the Lowland League trophy.

Following their league title presentation at K-Park, the Kilby players headed to Barocco in the Village for their annual bash, where Rangers legend Ian Durrant presented the prizes.

And centre-back Howie – a mainstay at the heart of the Kilby defence – collected the Players’ Player of the Year award and was also crowned Supporters’ Player of the Year.

Kilby boss Stuart Malcolm said: “I’m delighted for Craig. He has been magnificent.

“The players’ prize is the best one to get because it’s voted for by your peers and he deserves every bit of success.”

"When I first came in with Brian Kerr at the start of the season, we could tell how good a player Craig was.

"From my point of view, I was a defender in the lower leagues and I felt I could pass on my experiences to him and he's really taken them on board.

"Everyone know he likes to get the ball down and is very good at that, but we've tried to turn him into a player who defends first and over the course of the season I think he's reaped the rewards for that.

"And that is down to him and the hard work he has put in. He's everything you could want in a centre half."

Midfielder Graeme Holmes took home the Management’s Player of the Year gong, while left-back BJ Coll was handed the Board’s Player of the Year.

EK skipper Craig Malcolm received the Top Goalscorer award after netting 23 times.

Stuart Malcolm added: "I was pleased to see BJ, Homer and Malks get awards too because they have been fantastic as well - and, to be honest, there could have been 10 or 12 of the players getting awards.

"That shows how strong the team have been."
