East Kilbride social housing development shortlisted for prestigious housing award

A landmark social housing development in East Kilbride has been shortlisted for a prestigious award.

Lawknowe Court (also known as Law Place) in the town was built by construction firm, The JR Group, and has been named as a finalist in this year’s Scottish Home Awards.

That sees the development vie for the title of for 'best affordable housing development' in the social rent category.

Craig Whyte from The JR Group told Lanarkshire Live: “We’re absolutely thrilled to see this shortlisted for such a prominent housing industry award.

“This was a huge project for our team and everyone involved. We worked tirelessly to construct a fantastic mix of much needed, high-quality new build homes.

"The project was also the first to see residents receive our JR Group Welcome Home box featuring moving-day essentials, which we now provide for every social housing resident moving into a new home built by us.

“The project is a great example of how former industrial land can be regenerated and given a new lease of life and I think it stands a great chance of picking up the award at the ceremony in September.”

The 105-home development was constructed on behalf of social housing organisation, Link Group, and involved several partners including developers Swan Group.

The construction firm led the project – one of the largest of its kind in the area – on site from start to finish, taking over two years to complete.

The mix of affordable and mid-market terraced housing, flats and retirement homes was created to help address the growing demand for more high-quality homes in the area.

Winners of the Scottish Home Awards will be announced on Thursday, September 16.
