East Kilbride sign former Hibs youngster Callum Donaldson

East Kilbride have completed the signing of former Hibs youngster Callum Donaldson.

The 19-year-old was released by the capital outfit at the end of last season and has now joined the Lowland League champions on a one-year-deal.

Donaldson won the SPFL U20 Development League with the Hibees in 2018 and last season played a handful of games in League Two for Berwick Rangers.

He also featured as a trialist for Kilby in their pre-season victory over Stenhousemuir.

Donaldson could make his debut in Saturday's East of Scotland Qualifying Cup first round match with Easthouses Lily.

Kilby boss Stuart Malcolm said: "We are delighted to get Callum on board.

"He signed on Tuesday night and gives us a lot of options in defence.

"Callum can play at left-back, right back or the right-wing back position as well."

Earlier in the week Kilby were rocked by the news central defender Darren O'Dea is leaving the club to pursue a coaching role at Celtic.

And Malcolm says the club are working to bring in a replacement.

He added: "We need to fill that centre-back position and that is what we are focusing on now.

"We are trying very hard, but we may have to wait until the end of the month when the transfer window closes and maybe some loan deals open up for us.

"We'd like to get the right person in as soon as we can, but we might have to wait a little longer than we'd like."
