East Kilbride shooters still at large three weeks after incidents shocked town

Two shooters who struck within days of each other are still at large.

East Kilbride was rocked by two separate shooting incidents – one in Calderwood and another in Jackton – in just five days.

And this week police have said “enquiries are ongoing” with no arrests made in connection with the incidents as yet.

Calderwood was on lockdown on Wednesday, September 11 after local men Scott Davis and John Whalin were gunned down by balaclava-clad thugs in a late-night murder bid in Gordon Drive and Calderwood Road.

Then, on the Monday, cops flooded the streets of Jackton after terrified residents reported hearing gunshots in Walpole Lane late on Sunday night.

Residents were unable to leave the street as forensic officers combed the scene for evidence a short distance from Police Scotland’s training college.

Police say both shootings were “planned” and “targeted” attacks and have ruled out any possible link.

East Kilbride Police Chief Inspector Geraldine McSherry reinforced this message and moved to allay fears about gun crime on our streets.

She assured residents that police are “absolutely intent” on bringing those responsible for these “violent and reckless” acts to justice.
