East Kilbride school of rock to showcase talent at summer charity concert

Village School of Music students will be striking a chord next week in support of a child cancer charity.

Assisted by the tutors of VSOM and the staff from East Kilbride’s Village Music store, the school of rock will throw their annual summer concert at Eastwood Park Theatre on Tuesday, June 18, in aid of Neuroblastoma UK.

And this show is set to be an eclectic one; with everything from Oasis to Scottish traditional, Judas Priest to Lewis Capaldi and Queen to Lana Del Ray.

Enjoy classical piano instrumentals, traditional Scottish and Irish fiddle pieces and pop and rock classics, performed by the music school’s amazingly talented students, tutors, and staff.

Village School of Music director and owner of the Village Music shop, Jamie Finn, said: “As usual, the students have been working round the clock and are sounding incredible!” This will be VSOM’s ninth concert fundraising for childhood cancer charity Neuroblastoma UK.

The Village Music Shop and School of Music is run by Jamie and his wife Lucy.

The school teaches banjo, guitar, violin, bass, piano, keyboard, vocals, drums, ukulele and runs the rock club.

Jamie told the Ticket: “Last year our 25th anniversary concert was held at the Hamilton Town House where we sold over 700 tickets – we were literally 15 tickets off selling it out.

“We have scaled things back a little bit for this concert as there is only a limited number of performers permitted back stage at time – but the standard of performances are higher than ever.

“The aim of our shows is to give our 400-plus music students the opportunity to perform on a professional stage.

“This serves as a goal for them to practice towards and it gives the parents the chance to see their children perform and grow as musicians – all while raising money for an amazing cause.

“All the proceeds from our ticket sales, programme sales, T-shirt sales, and the raffle go directly to Neuroblastoma UK which funds aid for children suffering from this horrific illness as well as funding vital research into fighting it.”

The raffle this year includes amazing donations from generous local retailers and vendors in East Kilbride Village and some phenomenal prizes from some
of Village Music’s Suppliers, including a Fender Mustang GT40 Modelling amplifier worth £200 from Fender UK.

Tickets for the raffle can also be bought from www.villagemusic.co.uk for anyone who can’t make the concert.

This show is nearly sold out, but tickets can still be bought online, or from the Eastwood Park Theatre box office on 0141 577 4956.
