East Kilbride Rugby Club shutdown as academy player tests positive for Covid-19

East Kilbride Rugby Club have confirmed an academy player has tested positive for Covid-19.

The club were notified of the result today (October 7) and in a statement revealed they "have suspended all rugby activities at the club with immediate effect until further notice."

The Torrance House side have been in contact with the SRU and "will continue to work closely with the governing body throughout this period."

The statement from the EK Rugby coronavirus response group read: "Any player affected by this has been contacted by our parent rep this morning and signposted to guidance issued by NHS Scotland to self isolate from today's positive result date.

"We will of course issue more information about the resumption of activities when this information becomes available.

"We would also like to wish the player a speedy recovery on behalf of everyone associated with East Kilbride Rugby Club. "

The side are the latest in Lanarkshire to be impacted by the virus with a similar situation occurring at neighbours Hamilton.
