East Kilbride Rugby Club "itching to get back" as return date target set

East Kilbride Rugby Club coach Allan Steel hopes league matches will return in October, because his players are ‘itching’ to get back.

Steel welcomes Scottish Rugby’s Return to Rugby Roadmap plan, and will talk to players and coaches about getting back to small group training as soon as possible.

He says it will be good for players’ mental health, because frustration has crept in over lockdown.

The boss said: “Getting league fixtures started in October is something we didn’t think was going to happen, I was of the belief there would be no rugby this year.

“The guys are really itching to get back, they’re fed up running. It’s all about morale.

“It’s not as much fun, because you’re doing all that exercise with nothing at the end of it.

“Even getting back to training in small groups will make a difference. It’s not so much chucking the ball about.”
