East Kilbride petrol station to be sold sparking fears over jobs

An East Kilbride petrol station will be sold leading to fears over the future of the jobs of staff.

The Co-op have confirmed that the garage at St Leonards Square will be sold to an undisclosed buyer.

It follows the closure of the Post Office just a few weeks ago after RS McColl's decided to shut its doors for good.

A source told the News they fear that "all staff will be out of a job by spring".

The retailer hasn't confirmed how many staff the petrol station employs but say they will be "fully supported" during the transition.

A Co-op spokesperson said: “Co-op regularly reviews its large and varied property portfolio to drive the sustainable growth of the business and can confirm our petrol filling station on High Common Road, East Kilbride, is to be sold.

"The decision to sell any store is not taken lightly, colleagues have been informed and our priority is to fully support them with the transfer to the new operator or finding alternative positions in nearby Co-op stores.”
