East Kilbride mum and two young children reported missing as police launch search

UPDATE: Police said "all have been traced safe and well. We would like to thank members of the public and the media for their assistance in this inquiry."

Police have launched a search for a mum and her two young children after they were reported missing from East Kilbride.

23-year-old Lauren Young and her sons Zak, 5, and Mason, 3, haven't been seen since yesterday afternoon in the Murray area of the town.

Police say fears are growing for their welfare.

Officers have issued descriptions of the family, with the local police sergeant making a direct appeal to Lauren to let them know they are safe.

A statement released by Police Scotland this afternoon advised: "Police in Lanarkshire are appealing for information to help trace a missing mother and her two young children reported missing from East Kilbride.

"Lauren Young (23) and her two children, five-year-old Zak and three-year-old Mason, were last seen around 3.35pm on Monday, 10 May, near Livingstone Drive in the Murray area and have not been seen or heard from since. There is growing concern for their welfare.

"She is described as being white, around 4ft 11ins tall with long black hair and blue eyes. At the time she went missing Lauren was wearing all black clothing. Both children are described as having dark hair and it is not known what they were wearing at the time they went missing."

Sergeant Lorraine Fraser of East Kilbride police station commented: “Along with her family, we are becoming increasingly concerned for Lauren and her two sons and we are keen to locate them as soon as possible.

“I would urge anyone who may have seen Lauren and her children to contact us immediately. Similarly, Lauren if you are reading this, let us know you, Zak and Mason are safe and well.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 2961 of 10 May.
