East Kilbride mini-heatwave to end amid Met Office thunderstorm weather warning

East Kilbride has been handed a weather warning for thunderstorms - despite rising temperatures in town.

After a scorcher last weekend, temperatures are expected to remain around 18 degrees today after topping 25 degrees last weekend.

However, the Met Office has now issued to town with a weather warning which will stay in place until midnight.

The warning states "most places will stay dry, but heavy showers and thunderstorms may cause some flooding and disruption to travel."

They add there is a "small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds."

A weather warning has been issued for the Strathclyde area (Met Office)

There is additionally a "small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life" and "there is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads."

If flooding or lightning strikes the town there is also a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services, and spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures

There is a "slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost."
