East Kilbride McDonald's staff test positive for coronavirus

Two members of staff have tested positive for coronavirus at a McDonald's restaurant in East Kilbride.

Other staff have also had to self-isolate following a close-contact investigation by health authorities, East Kilbride News reports.

The Queensway outlet remains open for drive-thru customers after the restaurant underwent "an enhanced clean" as a precaution following news of the positive tests.

A spokesman for McDonald's told the paper: “Two employees at our East Kilbride Queensway restaurant are currently self-isolating after testing positive for COVID-19.

"As soon as we were informed, the restaurant underwent an enhanced clean as a precaution. "We conducted a close-contact investigation and contacted all restaurant employees as well as Public Health Scotland.

" We have a number of safety measures in place to help keep our people safe, including perspex screens, temperature checks at the start of each shift, maintaining a two metre distance from others as much as possible, face coverings, regular hand washing and the use of hand sanitiser.”

Shirley Clelland, Head of Fleet and Environmental Services at SLC said: “Environmental Services has engaged with this and other local businesses in line with the national enforcement strategy for managing business compliance.”
