East Kilbride hit with three day weather warning as snow is forecast

The East Kilbride area has been issued with a yellow weather warning for most of the week.

In place till Wednesday, the warning comes after a weekend of turmoil and disruption caused by Storm Ciara.

Weather experts are saying there is a 70-90 per cent risk of sleet and snow throughout Monday, with temperatures hovering at just one degree.

And that comes with a feels like factor of MINUS SIX because of the heavy winds and wintry conditions.

The area was battered by Storm Ciara at the weekend, with residents waking up to snow and hailstones on Monday morning.

Driving conditions were difficult for motorists, with the school break thankfully lightening the load and risk on roads.

Met Office boffins expect the 90 per cent chance of snow and sleet to carry into Tuesday, warning of a between 70-90 per cent chance of more of the same until midday on Tuesday.

That calms down for some of the afternoon, before increasing to 80 per cent in the evening.

Again temperatures will fail to get above one degree, with the feel like temperature mimicking the minus six of Monday.

The same warnings are in place for Eaglesham, with residents experiencing heavy hail and snow early this morning, which lay before heavy traffic had passed.

Feels like temperatures there are said to be as low as minus five, with 70 per cent chance of snow, and sleet expected

Police Scotland and Traffic Scotland are urging motorists to take care on the roads when driving, and to make sure their cars are fit for all conditions.

Anyone looking to travel is urged to check road conditions first. Travel updates can be seen at trafficscotland.org, scotrail.co.uk, firstgroup.com and stagecoachbus.com.
