East Kilbride head knock scare as young midfielder is taken to hospital

East Kilbride were given a major scare during Saturday's 3-0 win against Stirling University when midfielder Daniel McManus was taken to hospital with a head injury.

Boss Chris Aitken says the on-loan St Mirren star was tackled and hit his head off a metal railing, knocking him out cold.

McManus had scored Kilby's opener in the win, with goals also coming from Billy Owens and Ryan Blair.

Aitken says it took a shine off the Lowland League victory at Forthbank, but is happy that the player is recovering.

He said: "It was a great result and a good performance, but what sort of took the shine off the performance was an injury that happened to young Daniel.

"He was still in hospital last night at 10pm.

"It took the sting out of the first half for us, there was 10-minute stoppage, waiting on the stretcher coming on for him.

"The Stirling boy challenged him at the side, he went off the park and hit his head off a railing on the stand-side, which knocked him out, and he got a gash on the back of his head.

"I spoke to him last night at about 10.15pm and that was him just leaving the hospital.

"The good news is there's nothing major, he's just got a bit of a sore head and a few stitches in the head, so hopefully he will be back in no time."
