East Kilbride family hit hard by COVID once again do their bit to help others this Christmas

An East Kilbride family ravaged by coronavirus have refused to let the virus stop them doing their bit to help others this Christmas.

Every year, Ruth Moore’s, East Mains house turns into a beacon of hope, light, love and fun – all in the name of charity.

And in a bid to spread some much-needed festive cheer during lockdown, Ruth has switched the lights on at her own Christmas wonderland earlier than normal.

She told the East Kilbride News: “Traditionally, when I was growing up, my dad always decorated our house in lights on December 1 for my birthday.

“Since his passing, I like to keep the tradition going to remember him and raise money for good local causes along the way.

“He made it very special for me and every morning of my birthday the decorations were up and it just made my day seeing all my parent’s hard work.”

Ruth was diagnosed with coronavirus in October and she admits she “thought her days were up” when she was diagnosed.

She added: “All the staff at Hairmyres were amazing. The care I received was above and beyond. It was outstanding.

“They are doing a tremendous job and with everything going on just now with lockdown I got the lights up early this year to spread some cheer.”

Ruth’s husband James’, mum, Gloria, 78, and two of her three daughters also tested positive for COVID.

Ruth added: “It’s been a really terrible time, but we’ve all recovered. I’m still receiving care and treatment, so was unable to put the decorations up myself this year.

“My daughter’s put on their Facebook pages and one of their friends put them up for me. This year we are raising money for WASLER as well as continuing to raise money for Cole Thompson.”

A home carer, Ruth thanked Hester & Lalli, Loupin Stane, Zucca’s, Greenhall Country Cafe and Farm Shop and Unison for all their donations aswell as the local community for their support during her families fight with coronavirus.

Ruth added: “I’ve been blown away by everyones support. We’d love for everyone to come and see our lights on Bosfield Place and drop a few pennies in the donation bucket.”
