East Kilbride Cricket Club relishing return to the top flight

East Kilbride Cricket Club star Josh Johnston reckons his side will have a battle on their hands from the get-go after learning their fixtures for the forthcoming season.

The Torrance House side won promotion from the Western District First Division last season and are looking forward to their return to the top flight.

The Premier League gets underway on April 27 and East Kilbride have been handed an opening day visit to Greenock.

Defending champions Ferguslie and runners-up Clydesdale are also among the early fixtures for EK, who finished runners-up to Drumpellier in their division last season.

And all-rounder Johnston said: “Going into the new season off the back of a very good promotion-winning season, we are looking forward to being back in the Premier League.

“It may have looked easy at times last season, looking at the games on paper, but we always had to fight hard.

“The same rules apply this season – we need to fight from the get-go.

“Imran Mughal has been training very well and looking in good nick in the indoor nets. Players around about look to have wintered well as well.

“Skipper Moneeb Iqbal is hitting the guys hard at training and making sure we are well drilled for the start of outdoor training and, of course, the season.”
