East Kilbride Coca-Cola worker nominates homeless charity for cash boost

A Coca-Cola worker based in East Kilbride is helping those at risk of homelessness.

Homeless Project Scotland, which provides 4500 meals for homeless people across Glasgow and surrounding areas each week has received a £3500 donation from Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP).

The donation was through the multi-national's Support My Cause initiative, which sees employees nominate charities close to their heart to receive funds.

Homeless Project Scotland was nominated by Gary McNair, a process technician at CCEP’s site in East Kilbride.

Funds will be used to distribute more clothing and blankets, as well as helping people without permanent residency stay safe during the pandemic with access to hand sanitiser.

The charity will also use the funds to go towards purchasing a vehicle that will help it to reach even more people across the city in need of their support.

Gary has been leading fundraising efforts for the charity, including a sponsored walk of the West Highland Way from Glasgow to Fort William, with the ultimate goal of raising £50,000.

He has also supported the charity through volunteering activities over the past three years.

Gary told Lanarkshire Live : "I’ve worked closely with the team at Homeless Project Scotland for a number of years and seen first-hand the amazing work they do with some of the most vulnerable people in the city.

"Their work has never been more important than it has during the past twelve months and it’s fantastic that CCEP has been able to do something to help.

“I’m delighted that my colleagues have chosen to support Homeless Project Scotland with this donation, and I hope the team here in East Kilbride will continue to work with the charity moving forward.”

Colin McInnes, chairman at Homeless Project Scotland, said: “We’ve seen a steep rise in the number of people across Glasgow that need our support, particularly after the pandemic, and it continues to grow every day.

"We’ve had to quickly expand our operation to deliver even more supplies, taking into account things like hand sanitiser following the coronavirus outbreak.

“This has only been possible thanks to our team of volunteers and our supporters, such as the Coca-Cola Europacific Partners team. Their donation has been invaluable in helping us to reach even more people experiencing homelessness during an incredibly difficult time.”
