East Kilbride caretaker Chris Aitken not concerned by boss announcement delay after thrashing Vale of Leithen

East Kilbride caretaker Chris Aitken insists he is '100 per cent sure' he will be the next permanent manager of the Lowland League club after last night's 7-1 thrashing away at Vale of Leithen.

The 44-year-old had hoped he and assistant Ian Durrant would be formally announced as the successors to his brother Stevie, who quit just over a week ago, at the start of the week.

But a couple of things still need to be ironed out and he isn't concerned about the delay.

He said: "The situation should be done and dusted soon.

"There's nothing major to be done. It's just about whether I get another coach in.

"Everything else is good and I'm not in any rush to get it announced.

"I've had good conversations with the club and I'm pleased to say I think it will be done before Saturday and, if not, the start of next week.

"I'm not concerned in the slightest. I'm 100 per cent sure it will get done.

"The biggest thing for me is concentrating on the football and getting the players ready for another massive game on Saturday at Berwick."

Kilby made it back-to-back wins last night as they made one change from Saturday's 1-0 win over Bo'ness, with Daniel McManus coming in for injured skipper Chris Millar.

Doubles from McManus, Craig Malcolm and Chris Erskine, as well as a James Finlay strike earned another three points.

It moved Aitken's side up to 11th in the table and he admitted he was probably more pleased to see his injury-hit side come away unscathed than with the result.

He said: "I asked the guys to give me a professional performance and that's what they did.

"It was good to get a few goals and it was actually good to come through a game without any injuries.

"On the way back I said to Durranty I'm not sure what's more pleasing? And he said don't jinx it, you've not had any phone calls yet.

"So it was good to come through it and it's another good result after Saturday.

"People know that the treatment room is getting lighter and I'm hoping to have a couple back for Saturday.

"The guys who have the jersey right now know that they need to be doing the business because the guys coming back will be pushing them.

"We've got Liam Millar, Greg Wylde, Joao Victoria all on the way back so everyone needs to be on form.

"As a manager that's what you want.

"I thought Chis Millar was going to make it but he wasn't quite there, so wee Daniel came in and, to be fair to him, he's done really well and chipped in with a couple of goals."
