East Kilbride boxer going for Euro glory in Romania

East Kilbride boxer Chloe Bodwick is flying high after being called up for international duty for Scotland.

The 15-year-old, from West Mains, has been selected to compete in the European Junior Championships in Galati, Romania, this week and is understandably excited by her call-up to the team.

She said: “This is what I have been working so hard for and I can’t wait for the competition to begin.

“I love being part of the Scotland set-up. I have had a good year so far in club competition but this is definitely the highlight so far.”

Chloe (right) is the current Junior Western District and Scottish Open Champion and has competed for Scotland in the last three GB Tri-Nation Championships.

The team flew out to a pre-tournament training camp in Romania last week, where they will train alongside some of Europe’s best young boxers until the tournament begins today.

The St Andrew’s and St Bride’s High School pupil added: “I will be up against extremely talented girls from all over Europe and I know that It’s going to be tough.

“But the experience will be phenomenal and I’m just itching to get out there and do the best for my country.”

Chloe had been hoping to warm up for the championships with a rematch against rival Amelie Garcia from MTK Amateurs last month at MTG Lord Lonsdale Box Cup, held at Penrith Leisure Centre, but the Preston girl had to withdraw through injury.

This left Chloe as the winner by walkover.

However, she has plenty of experience to call on this year following a number of title wins.
