David Jamieson is set for an IBO intercontinental title fight against Iain Martell after a successful return to the ring.
The Cruiserweight clash will be the biggest fight of the Westwood boxer’s career and a perfect opportunity to relaunch himself after a difficult two years.
Jamieson produced an impressive performance in his first fight in two years as he defeated Elvis Dube on Saturday at the Crowne Plaza.
The 29-year-old is raring to go after the pandemic halted his promising career and promoter Sam Kynoch is close to announcing a massive clash in London in October.
Martell is unbeaten with an 11-0 record as a professional but Jamieson has targeted the Englishman for months and he’s confident of claiming the title.
“It’s 99 percent done,” Jamieson revealed. “I’ve spoken to Sam and it’s done on our part and Martell’s side have agreed with Dennis Hobson.
“All the paperwork has been sent off to the IBO for the intercontinental title and they just need to approve it.
“It’s looking very promising for the first weekend in October. It’s a big title which is vacant at the moment so it’s going to be brilliant for me.
“What a springboard that could be in my career. I’ll get an instant top ten ranking in the UK and a world ranking which will give me a chance for bigger and better things.
“It’s a fight that I’ve actively been seeking for a while and I’m fully confident in my ability to win.
“I knew our paths would cross and I back myself to win the belt. He’s from a cagefighting background while I have a solid amateur background.
“We absolutely fancy this fight. He’s not the biggest of cruiserweights, I’m quite big at the weight so it all makes perfect sense for me.
“You are in this game to fight the best. I’m only six or seven fights into my professional career but I’m not looking to rack up a strong record fighting nobodies.
“I’ve had enough of an amateur experience but I want to start pushing on for titles.”

Jamieson was left disappointed when his muted return to the ring at New Douglas Park was cancelled last weekend as his opponent was held up at Glasgow Airport.
The East Kilbride fighter refused to get disheartened and he demonstrated his undoubted ability by stopping the experienced Dube in the fourth round on Saturday.
“The referee stopped the contest in the fourth round,” Jamieson admitted. “I stuck him down in the third because I sat him down but my coach told me it was the fourth.
“I had him down twice in the third round, then again in the fourth and the referee jumped in to call it.
“I was over the moon with my performance. Credit to Elvis because he’s a really tough man but I started well in the first round and got used to the crowd again.
“I settled in really quickly and that’s because I’m really fit. I could have boxed for plenty more rounds but I really started to connect with my punches in the third round.
“Everything went great and I didn’t feel any rust or anything like that at all. There were no pre-match nerves.
“It was a brilliant show. It was a really well ran show and all the punters enjoyed their evening.”

Jamieson is set to jet off to Spain next week to celebrate his return to the ring and resting before preparations start for his title fight.
He added: “I fly to Ibiza next week and it’ll just be putting my feet up and chilling - it won’t be the usual Ibiza holiday.
“I’ll come back to recharge and refresh ahead of the biggest camp of my life. I’m still in great condition and I’ve not blown up after my fight.
“I’m still very fit and it’s a better block to build off.”
