East Kilbride boss Stevie Aitken expects tough test against impressive Clyde in cup decider

Stevie Aitken admits East Kilbride face a difficult challenge against Clyde in their final Premier Sport Cup group game.

Kilby are currently second in the Group G table and they’d move onto seven points with a win over the Bully Wee.

Danny Lennon’s side would leapfrog EK with a win and Kilby boss Aitken is fully aware of the threat they possess.

East Kilbride are the only non-SPFL side in the group and Aitken has been delighted with his side’s performances so far.

“It’s another huge challenge,” said Aitken. “They are two leagues above us and have a lot of good players but we will use that to motivate ourselves.

“They’ve got players like Morgaro Gomis, David Goodwillie, Scott Rumsby and Ally Love - I’ve known them through my career.

“They are a good side and Danny also has his team playing good football. He’s an experienced manager and there’s no doubt that we will be up against it.

“We knew it would be tough but we’ve competed really well whilst making a few changes in every game - we’re still not at full strength yet.

“We always knew it would be tough because every team in our section is in leagues above us.

“If we can win against Clyde and finish with seven points then that’s a fantastic achievement from a very tough section.

“We will set up to try and win the game, like we do in every game that we play, and we enjoy playing at home.

“Hopefully we can put on a performance to get something from the game.”
