East Kilbride boss Chris Aitken: Focus on climbing Lowland League

East Kilbride boss Chris Aitken has told his players to forget about every other team in the Lowland League and focus on themselves as they bid to climb the table.

Kilby followed up their 3-0 midweek win over Dalbeattie Star with an identical scoreline at Stirling University on Saturday, and Aitken says those are the first two steps that will see them build a good consistency level.

Daniel McManus grabbed the opener before being stretchered off with a head injury, and Billy Owens and Ryan Blair put the seal on a good win at Forthbank.

That leaves the K-Park side in sixth place going into a cup double-header against Larkhall Thistle in the South Challenge Cup and a visit by Stirling Uni in the Scottish Cup, so Aitken says it was important to sign off with a win.

He said: “In the second half I thought they upped it a few levels and I think they scored a few really good goals.

“We could have scored a couple more, but that’s a manager just being greedy and putting demands on his players, so I’m delighted with the 3-0.

“All in all I’m delighted, and with another clean sheet, which is important, so we just need to get a wee bit of consistency down and hopefully go on a wee run.

“The challenge I’ve set to the players is to win as many games as they can and move up the league.

“We haven’t got a league game for a couple of weeks, because we’ve got a couple of cup games coming up, but I told the players to forget about everybody else in the league and start concentrating on us.

“Let’s just go and try to win as many games as we can and put on performances like we have done for the last two games, because we need to try and get a bit of consistency – if we can do that we’ll start creeping up the table.”
