East Kilbride attempted murder probe - man deliberately struck by car

Police have launched an attempted murder probe after a man was deliberately struck with a car.

A 55-year-old man has been left in a serious, but stable condition after the incident on Blacklands Road last night.

Police this morning released a statement which read: "Detectives are appealing for information after a man was deliberately struck by a car in East Kilbride.

"Around 10:20pm on Thursday 20 June 2019, a 55 year old man was with a friend in Blacklands Road, East Kilbride. They were speaking with the occupants of a black coloured Hyundai car.

"The car was then deliberately driven towards the men and struck the 55 year old man.

"Emergency services attended and the man was taken to Hairmyres Hospital. Medical staff describe his condition as serious but stable.

"Police are treating the incident at as attempted murder. Officers are carrying out door-to-door enquiries and will continue to review CCTV footage for any additional information."

Detective Sergeant Martin McKendrick added: “The motive for the attack is unknown but we believe the man who was injured was the intended target. I am appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have witnessed the incident to contact us. If anyone has captured any footage, I would ask them to pass it on to us as it could provide us with vital information for our inquiry.”

Anyone with information is asked to call CID officers at Cambuslang Police Station via 101, quoting incident number 4367 of Thursday 20 June 2019.  Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
